MEET THE DESIGNER

Sylvie Farrington has loved color, design and artisan work since she can remember. As the daughter of a watercolor artist in Northern Germany, she began creating as a young child, crocheting outfits for her teddy bears. As a teen, she designed and created a shirt that was so successful that she was able to save enough money to board a plane to head to America. 

Sylvie landed on Martha's Vineyard for a summer and was inspired to refine her craft. She gained skill and confidence apprenticing in traditional tailoring back in Germany, as well as on island with Michèle Ratté Fabric Design. In 1997, Sylvie discovered her love for mid century textiles and design and knew she could create something unique out of vintage barkcloth. What started as just a few pieces eventually turned into an entire collection found in galleries and shows.

Today SylvieBags have become an island fashion staple and her pieces can be spotted across the US and beyond.
